Default Anyone else miss potatoes?

I love potatoes. My favorite way to eat them is baked with butter, sour cream and chives on them. I used to go to Wendy's and get them with chili on them or sometimes broccoli. I also like them mashed with gravy. About the only way I don't like them prepared is as french fries. I am having dreams about potatoes.

Any one else out there who miss eating potatoes?

And paleeze don't ask me to make faux potatoes with cauliflower (or turnips). I love cauliflower, but a potato is a potato is a potato. Cauliflower and potatoes are 2 different animals (er I mean vegetables).

I tried that cauliflower faux potato thing...and it tasted like cauliflower. And it was a rather gross texture. So sad, I miss potatoes very much.

I don't miss potatoes at all, what I miss is fresh bread, the kind that comes in an uncut loaf at the store, and the crust is still soft and it taste just like butter even plain.

Yummy, that is what I miss the most, oooops I have made my tummy growl.

I don't miss them really at all. My cravings for things has totally diminished.

As for the faux mashed potatoes. I realize that they don't really taste like potatoes but I love them. Here is how I make them so maybe you guys might give them another chance. DH and I went to TGI Fridays the other night and I didn't crave one of his fries which really blew me away!

I boil the cauliflower until mushy, then mash with a hand held potatoe masher until smooth. I add sour cream, real bacon bits or bacon pieces, minced garlic, chopped onion, butter, salt and pepper. I put it in a casserole dish and top with shredded colby jack cheese then bake at 350 for about 25 minutes. This is soooo good, DH and I love it.

I have actually taken this to parties and people eat it up!

and they make a product called "Ketatoes" that you add to the cauliflower to make them taste more like it. I personally don't care for it, but others have LOVED it.

In answer to your question, check out my name!! I really don't miss them much anymore... When I do CAD, even though I have the option, I really don't go out of my way for them anymore. <shrug>

Yeah, suprisingly, I am a bit over potatoes. I had a taste the other night just to see what they were like, and they weren't gross or anything it just seemed like wasted carbs. I used to eat potatoes with cheese, salsa, sometimes left over spag bol mince, and sour cream like, 3 nights a week for dinner. Now that sounds kind of gross.

YES I miss the pototoes!!!!!!

That is by far my favorite high carb food. Miss the baked potatoes and McDonalds french fries.

I also still dream about food. I haven't cheated with them for fear I could never stop.

I don't miss whole potatoes or mashed potatoes, but I do miss french fries (smothered in vinegar, yum!). What I miss most, however, is pizza. The low carb brands just don't cut it. But oh well, I love my steak too!

Well that is my problem. I never used to eat steak without a baked potato. Now my steak is lonely.

I eat a small amount of potatoes on occassion. For example, I'll include 1 small (132g) to medium (168g) potato in my Pot Roasts...They come out to about 11-15g of Net Carbs for 12 ounces, which is fine as long as you're a good ways along. Other times, I like to take Ketatoes and mix them with lots of Butter. They're good as long as they're covered in Butter.

(2 lbs Chuck Roast; 1 med. Potato; 2 med. Carrots; 78g Green Peas; 78g Green Beans; 1/2 cup Broth; 1-1/2 tsp Xanathan Gum)

(1 lb Bottom Round; 132g Potato; 100g Green Peas; 200g Green Beans; 1/2 cup Water; 1/4 tsp Lite Salt; Black Pepper to taste; 1/2 tsp Xanathan Gum)

I used to LIVE potaoes. Fries, Au Gratin, Mashed with Cheese. Just about anyway you could make em I loved em.

But, since i started this plan, I have had no carb cravings whatsoever. Sure I would love to have a tuna sandwich instead of just the tuna, but I haven't really craved anything. Not like other times on other diets. That is the great thing about this plan.

Cheese has been tough though. That has been my only craving. I use some on my hamburgers and I have a few cubes for a snack, but I could eat the whole dang package.

I think when my current groceries run out I am going to drop the cubed cheese to get temptation out of the way.

What are some good snack ideas?

I'm over potatoes, not quite over bread--fresh bread, with a glass of red wine and some great Italian dish. I miss the atmosphere and the inhibition. Now when I look at a menu it's like when I was a student and had no money and I was like"hummmm, what can I afford?" Now, same question, with a different meaning I guess... :0

Yeah, looking forward to being able to eat the occasional potato when I'm maintenance.

But like someone else mentioned, crusty wonderful bread... /sigh

Hi there all!

I miss chips (thick cut french fries) with salt and vinegar but dont really crave them at all. I can happily watch people munching on them, suppose I just miss the thought of doing it. One thing that is tempting is the fresh made turkish bread from the kebab shop down the road - it is truly divine, but I havent given in yet.

Yes, JayceeMn, I miss the atmosphere of the free and easy mediterranean lifestyle (sure you don't mean lack of inhibition?) but in one way I am free to eat steak and salad and butter on veggies and garlic prawns and pate and cheese etc when I go out. I do very occasionally indulge in a glass of white wine (watered down with soda or diet lemonade - sorta spritzer which doesnt affect me being in ketosis) and it is so much nice to be able to say yes to those things while girlfriends are worrying senseless and just picking at a cold salad. Hehe he! Long live this wol!
