Default Disappointing restaurant dinner

To explain-we were given a gift cert to a local restaurant and had been holding on to it until we really wanted to go out. This was somewhere we had never been before and were excited to try it out.
To say we were disappointed would be putting it mildly.
First, appetizer bar-celery and carrot sticks, pasta salads (3), crackers, etc.
So, ate a couple of celery sticks.
Coffee-something wrong, tasted burned or old???? Tried new cup, no improvement.
Salad-Got a small saucer full of cut up iceberg lettuce. Wow, I have a salad at home in the fridge with all kinds of mixed lettuces, spinach, cabbage, etc.
Dinner-ordered vegs in place of potato-got a small bowl of peas-we could tell were from frozen bag and boiled too long. I didnt eat-DH did.
Prime rib-when you have to saw at it with a steak knife-you know there is a problem. Taste-very bland.
No more coffee-no dessert.
With tip, this cost us our $40 cert and $3 cash.
DH came home with upset stomach and went to bed early. I have major heartburn which I havent had in quite a while. I think it will be a long time before we go out just for dinner again. Would rather spend $$$ somewhere else.
ANyone else find that they would rather just eat at home???

Wow, that sounds just awful!

I love good food, not that I eat out all that often. But some of my favorites are Thai. But even Thai food you can eat low carb. The sauces are usually made with curry paste, coconut milk and other spices and served over meats and vegetables. Some of the curries have potatoes, so I don't eat those. Of course, they eat everything with rice, but I ask for a side order of steamed brocolli and use it in place of rice.

Then I get Panang Duck and I'm a hell of a happy camper!

I definitly would have complained to the manager. I probably would have walked out after the salad. I always ask what the vegetables are so no surprizes

We used to eat out alot. I fo have some favorites at certain resteraunts. Alot of nights though it just seems to much trouble and hassle to go out. Often I can make certain things better at home and be assured there are no addatives, and even in LC things the sodium from most resteraunts bloats me up.

I don't really have a hard time eating out. If absolutely nothing on the menu is appealing to me, I usually order buffalo chicken wings (after asking if flour or breading is used) or a grilled breast of chicken sandwich with no bun.

Most places will sub a salad or steamed/grilled veggies for fries without too much hassle.

I get tired of eating at home all the time. And I do love to cook, but after my workday there isn't always a lot of time.

We're fortunate in having lots of good restaurants to choose from. I think you just got a bad one.

It used to amaze me on Long Island, how many restaurants were just terrible! But there were a lot of tourists who didn't know any better, I guess.

i usually look at restaurant reviews online before choosing one. Or i look at the zagat's survey. There is alot of information out there that can steer you in the right direction.
At least you didn't have to pay for it and don't ever have to go back.
