Angry Who spiked my chicken salad?!

I'm sitting at the desk eating this chicken salad I got from the deli, just a few bites and then got distracted while I checked the boards and my e-mail. All of a sudden I start to feel a little strange, a little...hyper. I feel my heartbeat pick up, I feel a little warm, almost as if I'm getting a...SUGAR RUSH?? NO WAY!!

I check the container, and the label says DEXTROSE!! In chicken salad? WHY???? At least this deli is good enough to put an ingredient label--which I thought I read carefully but who was looking for dextrose in chicken salad?

I have been feeling a little frustrated because I haven't lost weight for three weeks, and I have been really really good with my food choices. Now this!

I have no idea how much sugar I ate so no clue how to count it. I just know that was a sugar spike. The only other time I have felt this way was two weeks ago when I had some meat at a catered lunch that was in gravy. I scraped off all the gravy and just had a small piece, but after eating it, I felt exactly the same way I do now.

I know it's no big deal, but I'm just so mad that even simple chicken salad isn't safe.

I agree why they feel the need to add sugar to everything is beyond me but they do!!! Chicken salad, tuna salad, even egg salad is made with Mircle whip that contains sugar, cole slaw, and crab/seafood salad is made with imitation seafood that has tons of sugar in it!!!

I just decided that if its a salad, cassarole or something that I can't tell exactly whats in it I just make my own or get rotisserie chicken or something safe

Whats really upsetting is when you buy raw meat and find it has been injected with a ton of salt.

With deli meat it is almost impossible to find some that have not been treated with sugar. Many also contain starch. What you can do though is try to find one that states less then 2% solution that contains sugar and lists the carbs as 0 or <1g. Many fat food places and delis will marinate thier chicken in sugar. Americans love sugar, it's been added to almost every product we eat, and we've become addicted. If they didn't dump in the sugar, many people would not buy it as it would taste "off". What I don't understand is how legaly they can do this and not put "contains sugar" on the front to keep form being sued by diabetics.

On a positive note, as long as we're discussing labels, I found that Boar's Head has PDFs of all its nutrition labels on the Web. They're not grouped in a terribly helpful way so you have to download all the pdf's to find what you're looking for. Since most deli's here carry their products, now at least I know which ones I can eat.

Still comin' down off that sugar rush. Whoa, Nelly!

Sorry. Forgot to include the link . You need to scroll down a bit to find it. Not a terribly well put-together site (unlike this one which is outstanding!)
