Yes indeed, thanks for posting that! Everyone in my family seems to get diabetes eventually, regardless of their weight. Hopefully my low-carbing will help prevent it.

All the men in my family develop diabetes by the time they're 45.

I want to avoid that -_-

All the women on my mom's side have diabetes and breast cancer and on my father's side they have heart disease and cervical cancer. Both my parents died at 50. I don't want to die that young.

Funny, of all the Alzheimer's residents I care for, only a scant few have been diabetic. Personally, they may be correlated, but I doubt they are actually linked.

I hope it does, too. My parents had horrible eating habits that I am just learning are a death sentence. You would think I would have realized that before but I guess better late than never.

In my family, no one is overweight, I am the ONLY one who is obese, but my health-nut Dad has cholesterol so high he is on meds, there is diabetes amoungst several relatives, and a high incidence of cancer with all the smokers in my family.

So here I am, almost 100lbs overweight, I've got low blood pressure, cholesterol of 182, great LDL/HDL & trigliceride levels, no diabetes. I attest this to the fact that I have never eaten junk food or fast food. My one and only indulgence was Starbucks Java Chip Ice Cream (I figured if I was going to eat something sweet, it HAD to be great, I cannot stomach low-fat, low-carb, low-taste ice cream). I couldn't tell you what's in a big mac or whatever.

So I know as I lose the weight I'll be even healthier!
