Default Coffee and Heartburn while low carbing

Before low carbing, I used to get frequent heartburn when I consumed items like citrus juices, chocolate, ice cream and espresso

Since low carbing, I haven't had an episode of heartburn (yeah!), but something interesting happened last night.

I decided to make a homemade LC latte. My husband brought me home an iced espresso to which I added cream.

The heartburn is back!

Now I don't know whether it was the lowcarbing that was helping to alleviate my heartburn, or the fact that I wasn't consuming the trigger substances any longer.

Has this happened to any of you?

Thanks, barefoot

Actually it could be both. High carb is known to cause and increase in indigestion, ulcers. I have severe GERD with spasm of the esophagus, difficulty swallowing, hiatal hernia. My GI doc encouraged LC and in fact strongly suggested I get back on it since my symptoms were so severe. I take Nexium 2x/day (yep double the max dose) and also Zofran up to 2X/day for nausea. (I was practically beggin the doc to let me take it more than twice/day)

If you have H.Pylori, the bug that causes ulcers, LC can only help, since they love carbs....especially simple carbs. The doc that did the (now famous) Duke study is a friend of my GI doc and is now looking to do a new study on the effects of carbs on GI problems. Patients that had GI problems all reported at least lessening of symptoms. And all, regardless of what their history was, reported heartburn, indigestion and intestinal problems when they went off LC. My doc feels very strongly that carbs contribute to if not cause a good number of GI problems.

Since back on LC (for about 5 weeks now) I only take 1 Nexium/day and haven't had a Zofran in over a week.

I'm also off all arthritis meds, the first time in about 15years!
