Question Microwave Bacon

Hello! Hubby and I are gearing up to start Atkins this weekend. I've been reading some posts and some have mentioned microwave bacon (which I personally love!). However, doesn't this type of bacon have the nitrates Dr.Atkins tells us we are not supposed to have?

Is there a nitrate - free microwave bacon out there?

Thanks!

you can microwave any bacon. wrap a paper towel around it and put on a plate (which will become EXTREMELY hot) and nuke at 1 min / slice. or more if you prefer more crispy. I try not to do too many slices at once because I don't want the paper and hot fat in there too long (afraid it will catch fire). Never had a prob with 2 min on my micro.

I have not found a nitrate free bacon yet and I eat it quite often. So, if anyone knows of a nitrate free bacon, please do tell!

Look up applegate farms at your health foods stote or you can find them on the net at www.applegatefarms.com. They produce nitrite free bacon, sausage, hot dogs etc... By the way, welcome to the forum where you will get the best advise around.

I have found that the best way to make bacon is in the toaster-oven.
Lay the slices on the gril tray (make sure you have the drip tray under!). and start it on 250 for 10 minutes and then raise it to 400 for 2-3 minutes BUT keep an eye on it because it could burn quick.
It comes out crispy, thick, doesn't curl up, and it doesn't taste burned Oh yum!

And if you eat 2-3 slices a week you do not need to worry about nitrates...
