Default Basal Caloric Intake

I read an article on countcarbs.com-good site- about a basal caloric intake depending on your sex, ht, wt, and age. Mine is supposeddly about 1457, this is the basic amount of calories I need to function. It lookes like I'm supposed to keep my calories between 1457 and 1657. I was wondering if anyone has read this article and agrees with it? It sounded interesting to me.

as far as i know there are about 5 methods to determine BMR...

i'd die if i ate at my BMR... it's not enough to sustain me, even w/o exercise. if you DO exercise, you really need to eat more cals OR refeed twice a week because it can slow the metabolism otherwise.

anyway, if i had the choice i'd eat the 1600 cals over the BMR... that's what your body needs to function AT REST.

The basal number is the number of calories your body will burn in a resting state. Also the magic number to stay out of starvation. There are variables involved though. You see, since you are not in a resting state, you should be able to lose at that level because your daily activities will burn more than that. However, by the same token, if you work out alot, you will need to eat more to stay out of starvation mode because you will be burning ALOT more than that.

For me, Fitday has taken all the variables out. With the info you plug in, it tells you your basal levels, with the food you put it, it shows you calories in and then based on basal levels, lifestyle and any activities you enter, it tells you calories out. VERY INFORMATIVE (IMHO)

I hope if I am wrong on any of the above someone will correct me, but that is the info I got from my research on the subject.

Good luck!
