Question What's the ideal fat - protein - carb ratio?

Hi everyone!

I hope somebody can help me with this.

I'm using Atkin's diet and I'm on the 3rd day of my Induction. I've been using fitday to record my food intake. I notice that the fat in my food has the biggest percentage in that chart ranging from 60% tp 80%. While my protein only ranges from 18 to 34%. Carbs is only 1 to 3%.

I had 8 oz prime ribs this lunch time ( I was hungry! I ate 1 egg, 4 slices of genoa salami and 1 pork sausage). The beef alone resulted to a whopping 75 grams of fat!

I'm not used to having this too much fat in my diet. The book that I'm reading only tells about which food is low carb or high protein or not. No mention of desirable/ideal protein-fat ratio.

Should there be more fat in the diet than protein?

Is my fat-protein-carb ratio normal with Atkins? Any information will help. Thanks!

Just to clear stuff..

I ate the "1 egg, 4 slices of genoa salami and 1 pork sausage" in the morning. I ate the "prime ribs" at lunch.

Don't want you to think I ate them all at once!

Hi Marikit

You are right on target...Fat 60-70%, Carbs 3-5% and Protein 25-30%.
It is hard to believe that FAT will make you lose weight but it does.

Good luck to you.

Hi RBalhan!

Thank you very much for your answer.. you are very helpful.

You know, I ordered a 16 oz steak this lunch time, just to be surprised how big it is! I ended up only eating half of it.

This is like a "weaning stage" for me again. I need to learn and appreciate beef and pork as one of my main food source.

I always have fish and vege and chicken.... so I don't have a problem with that.

I don't have any craving at the moment... My room mates are being those "little devils" behind you... They are showing me donuts.. pasta... pizza... (everything that we used to eat together)... but I look at them and it seems that I can't remember how they used to taste. I don't have a crave for them (so far). And hopefully I won't.

Thanks again for the answer RBalhan!
