Question High cholesterol and memory problems

I've been low carbing for 14 months and when I had my cholesterol test done in March this year, my total cholesterol had gone up to 7.3 mmol/l (I think that's about 280 in US speak!), however, all my other ratios and levels were very good.

I'm hoping that this will settle down - maybe my body is taking longer to get used to the higher fat diet - and I am eating more fish and taking supplements to help.

ANYWAY! .... I have also been suffering from problems with my memory - can't find words, forget things I thought of a moment ago, general "fog" in my thinking, etc etc. Although this has been a problem since before low carbing, I have read that high cholesterol readings have been linked to problems with memory. Anybody else experience this?

I heard something on that... But I can't remember where.

Sorry. Had to do it.

I am very anxious to get any info on this subject as well. I have been locarbing for almost a year and have noticed my memory for stuff like names, and quick recall of words has been deteriorating slightly. It may just be age which is what all my friends say, but I am PARANOID because my mom is 71 and has Alzheimers. Her symptoms started years ago. She is thin but has high cholesterol. I do not know her breakdowns. I am 41(almost 42) and have a high overall # of 265 although my hdl is high at 77 and my triglycerides are low at 66. This puts my ldl at 175. My question to everyone is-- I know there are studies that show alzheimers is related somehow to cholesterol and plaquing, but which aspect of cholesterol seems to affect it most- ldl, trig, or low hdl? I need to know, since I am witnessing the horror of Alzheimers every day with my mom and if I need to get off the locarb thing, I guess I will, albeit reluctantly.
