Question weight loss speed

I am taking the below from another post to preface my question.. I asked te question before, but with the numerous responses to the other email thread, i was afraid my question would be lost in the shuffle... here goes:

***Atkins says what is normal is 10% of the weight you need to lose during induction and then 5% each month after that. With 28 more lbs to lose that would be 1.4 lbs this month, 1.3 lbs the next month and so on.***

My question is, is the 1.4, 1.3lbs loss weekly or monthly? If it is monthly, it is very discouraging. I have roughly 30lbs to shed and was hoping to at least lose 20 by May, but if I go by this 1.4 loss per MONTH it would only amount to 4.2lbs by May.. hardly close to my goal. Could I be misunderstanding the above quote? Is the 1.4lb rate per week? I have been on induction 3 weeks and am already getting very discouraged at my slow loss.

Thanks so much guys!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but that average is 10% of the amount you need to lose during induction (or about 3 pounds in your case), then 5% per month after that. Keep in mind, though, that those are just averages which means that some will lose more and some will lose less.
There are a whole host of factors that will determine the rate at which you lose weight such as age, gender, past dieting history, level of metabolism, level of excercise/daily activity, etc... (BTW, excercise is never a bad idea to help keep your weight loss moving along... )
If it makes you feel better, right now my average is about 4 pounds per month which is still in the range of 10% of what I still need to lose.
Low carb, contrary to popular perception, is not a speed method of losing weight. It's a healthy, sustainable method of losing weight that teaches you healthy eating habits and helps you learn what your body can and can't handle as far as carbs goes so that you can keep that weight off for a lifetime once you do reach your goal weight.
Considering that you started out wanting to lose 32 pounds, losing 5 in 3 weeks is really not slow and doing very well. I'm not sure if it's completely realistic to expect to lose the entire amount in 5 months' time. Unfortunately, only time will tell that.

I've been on induction for 3 weeks and my weight loss has been slow too. I see we are about at the same weight/goal. It IS discouraging at times. I'm not sure if it's per month or per week either! I sure hope it's per week!!! Good Luck!!!!! I hope we make it!

I always thought it was per week, but I guess I'm wrong. I lose at about 1 lb. per week. I thought it was slow, but considering I have 30 lbs. to go, I guess I'm losing right on schedule!
