Default Berries

Now the summer is here, I want to start introducing fruit to my diet - today I bought black berries (1/4 cup = 2.65 carbs). My question to you is, I am staying around 20 - 25 carbs per day (which is really induction level, but I've been LCing since January) - is it alright to add the berries keeping my carbs as low.

Hi vbrowne!

As long as you count the carbs, berries should be just fine. For a special treat, try them with heavy cream on them...yum!

V,

When I have berries I do not measure by the cup (or 1/4 cup), but count out the berries themselves. Like 2 or 3 strawberries, or maybe 5 black berries with 6 or 7 rasberries. I always make sure I have fat/protein when I eat them as well. The fat/protein helps offset the sugar in the berries to make sure the insulin stays level.

Reason I count the berries out? Control. It tells me, yes you can have these in moderation, however you are not allowed to just go free-for-all on them.

Makes you appriecate and savor every bite.

Once you add berries and nuts your on OWL, but there is no reason you can't do OWL at 20g a day for a while Just make sure to watch portion size and to add low GI items. Watch which berries are lower in carb, and whitch nuts are better. Remember to a serving of nuts os only 1oz, so measure out instead of eating out of the can or it is easy to overdo.
