Default PAM spray?

I`ve come across several US recipes which involve spraying the pan / skillet etc with `PAM spray`.

Now, I presume that it is some form of cooking oil, but does anybody know which type?

And if so can we get it in the UK or is their an equivalent?

Thanking you in anticipation...!

No sure what it is myself. There are some oil sprays you can get in the supermarket as putting just a fine layer of oil in helps keep the fat content down. This is not such an important issue on low carbing, but I would encourage you to cook with olive oil and if you can find a mist sprayer, then fine, otherwise a teaspoon of oil allowed to cover the pan will be fine. Try not to use vegetable or sunflower oil which has lots of artificial trans fats in it. I am sure a lot of sprays are not as healthy as using olive oil. I hope this helps you.

Instead of using PAM spray, I normally coat my dishes with butter. PAM is a non-stick cooking spray that comes in different flavours (like butter flavour).

I've found that spraying olive oil or using real butter (soft and rub it on the dish) works well.

Default PAM alternatives

Most non-stick sprays don't have TF, its not really necessary since TFs are designed to be solid at room temp. But PAM is so flavorless, I don't like it.

Butter is always good and it gives foods a lot more flavor and cooks nicely...I love that its totally allowed on LC...

PAM brand also has a canola oil spray here in the US...and there are other brands of canola sprays and olive oil sprays on our shelves.

PAM is a non stick oil spray made with canola oil. It's actually very good to use on baking dishes as NOTHING sticks but you can't buy it here. I asked ConAgra foods if they are going to import it but they said no. I but cans of it when I go to the States but to be honest I just use olive oil now and don't worry about it. I used to use PAM when I was low fatting but now I'm not, Olive oil and butter here I come! I bought a spray from Lakeland Plastics called Misto - that works fine.

You can actually buy PAM at www.cybercandy.com in their American Buyers Club section - watch out it's expensive!

I use butter for omelets and olive oil for just about everything else!

I have tried those fine mist olive oil sprays in the past, but they were hopeless. I'll just stick to my trusty oil pourer.
