Question Salami

Hi all!

Is it OK for me to eat packed Salami or other meat? I checked their carb content and it is very low though they contain sugar/lactose.

Thanks,

Massimo

Hi Massimo,

I just checked salami in the carb counter and it was about 2g per 100g. I think if you allow for this in your daily carb allowance it should be OK. The good thing about salami is the high fat content.

OK thanks Robert.

It's good that I don't have to worry about the little sugar in the salami .. I guess this is true for any other packed meat (bacon, normal ham, etc).

I'm sorry if I have to ask these stupid questions, but I'm pretty new with this... Many condiements and mayo/mustard contain traces of sugar. I do have to look at the carbs content, right - not whether something has sugar in it?

Thanks again

Massimo

Yes, It is easy to get paranoid about small traces of sugar. I don't know why they put it in so many things but they do. Always look at the carb content and make sure you add this into your daily total.

Hi Massimo,

I've been eating bacon with sugar almost every day and it doesn't seem to have had any ill effects.

However, last couple days I've been eating a lot of pepperoni and even though the carb count is low, I feel fatter. I suspect it's water retention. So you may have to watch that with the deli meats. Good news is it quickly goes away. Drink lots to compensate.

My ex BF's had a brother named Massimo. They called him Max!

Good luck!

Kaillean
