Default Weighing In?

I am confused about weighing on scales. I read on here and elsewhere that your weight can vary up to 10 pounds at any given time. So what is the point of weighing? Doesn't that mean that you really never get an accurate measure? And if the scale says I lost 2 pounds then maybe it's just fluctuation? I'm completely lost about this.

Yes, it can be confusing. You can get different results at different times of the day and scales tend to vary with each other by at least a few pounds. The best way to deal with this is to weigh yourself the same time on the same scale. Personally, I use my weigh-in first thing monday morning to track my progress.

So it varys up to 10 pounds because of the time of day? If I weight at the same time daily will it still be able to fluctuate up to 10 lbs? Or not at all, or some just not as much?

Well, I think a 10 pound fluctuation is a bit extreme. My weight tends to stay in a 2-3 pound range throughout the day. And there will still be some fluctuation even if you weigh yourself the same time every day because there at least a million different things that can affect your weight at any given time (dehydration, retaining water, empty/full stomach, etc.) The scale is imperfect and should not be taken as gospel. More importantly, it can't tell a pound of fat from a pound of muscle from a pound of water. I use both a scale and a tape measure to let me know I'm headed in the right direction.

Thanks for the help. I was using the tape measure, but I don't think I was doing a good job. I guess it would be a good idea for me to get it done by someone else.
