Lightbulb Forum leaders might not like this.

But I have to say it cause it's how I feel, O.K.

I think the wording on those mugs " Eat meat, Not wheat" is not helping the fact that most of the public sees us as nothing but big meat eaters!!

There I've said it!!

If I won one I would never use it, thus it's no insentive as far as a prize goes.

I think all of us are sick of the imagine that Atkins diet is; piggin out on bacon and eggs, steaks falling off the plate.

That is just not so!! at least it's not if you follow the plan!!

I'm sure the ones who sit and eat a pound of bacon are the same ones who would of ,opened up a pack of cookies and eat the whole darn bag!

I'm into my 15th month of Low carb'n, 8 months of maintenance, I eat no more meat then I did prior to Atkins! I eat whole grains and have done since about month 4.

I don't mean to rant on but, that mug poppin up all the time picks me. Could it not say :

Low carb'n and Lov'in it.

Low carber and proud of it!

Low carber, healthy human.

Just some Ideas.

Cheers Kathy

There's an easy way out of seeing it all the time. Become a contributing member and you live a blessedly ad-free life.

Is it still turned so it seems to say "Eat ME"???

Very true, but my point is more that I think it's a poor choice of words, the ads themself don't bother me.

I would pay just for the fact it's a great forum, not to get rid of sponsors.

Just for the record, all the slogans and logos were chosen by all of you members

We had a contest a while back for slogans and designs, and those are the winners.

As for

I for one am sick of being told eating meat is unhealthy. Meat is not the enemy, it's sugar, IMHO.

In any case, I'm not upset with your opinion at all. We all have different views on what's healthy.

Yes I remember that, but with all the increased media hipe in the past year, I truely think things have changed in regards to Atkins, mostly cause of poor reporting! lol
They have the public at large thinking that is all the diet is based on.

But in saying that there has been some increase on the positive / well researched reports.

I don't see it as being seen as "not healthy", just that that is all we eat.

Our target audience is not the media, it's us low-carbers

We should not be too sensitive to what the media says. Low-carbing is now popular, depite all the trash talking we got a few years ago (and still do).

I assure you, we will never have a mug that says "Only eat meat"

Slogans are meant to very short, yet say a lot, since you can't summarize low-carbing in 4 words. It's very much like saying, "Hey, we've had enough of your low-fat, high-sugar stuff shoved in our faces, we need meat, we need fat, it's essential and it's helthy!"

But you know what, I think it's good to offer choices. So I'll try to get more variety from CafePress. Here's what we currently have:

http://www.lowcarb.ca/store/store.php

I'll order a bunch of alternatives, maybe the "I've got firends in low-carb places", and who ever wins, gets to choose.

I have wondered about the wording myself. I mean even Atkins had plans for whole grains to be added back at the later stages of the diet. It's not a wheat free-grain free diet in the long term although the slogan definately suits induction which most people tend to stick with forever it seems.

Well, I've cut out quite a bit of your post just so I could comment on what I want to resond to. . .

I think "Eat meat, Not wheat" is hillariously funny. Possibly even worth joining the forum just to get one to keep on my desk. Heck, if we LC'ers cant laff at ourselves, then how do we collectively handle the criticism from the rest of the world?

As far as eating bacon, I swear that I've never eaten more than half a pound at once!

And WRT cookies, oreos in specific, I've only eaten as many as I could fit between my middle finger and thumb when I stretch them as far apart as I can, and then a few more - seriously. The sad thing is, even with the success I've had on this WOL, I cant tell say that I dont miss eating them.

So if I have to choose between meat (bacon) vs. wheat (oreos), and being 266 el bees, or 199.5 el bees, then I'll take the meat, with a side of green veggies.

Talking Maybe we need a "new" slogan contest??

I see both sides of the coin on this issue. I do see how parading a cup around work which states that slogan may help solidify and perpetuate the ignorant ideas fellow uneducated coworkers "might" have about this WOE.

On the other hand, I agree that it is only a slogan, and maybe we shouldn't take ourselves so seriously all the time.

That said, anybody think my wife will have any problem with me getting her this (see below)for our anniversary? I never knew we had such a huge variety of items to purchase here!
