Default Nut question

Does anyone know why nuts are excluded during induction? Macadamia nuts appear to be extremely low in carbs after you subtract the fiber.

Well, for one thing, it's really easy to overdo it on nuts. Hard to have just a few (as my sig will attest). Also, if you're on a very limited carb regimen, like induction, it's best to concentrate on the most nutrition-dense foods, like veggies. While nuts are full of good stuff, they also have a lot of calories.

Dr. Atkins specified that during Induction, the majority of your carbs should come from salads and vegetables. If you also have cheese, eggs, shellfish, salad dressings, lemon juice, other spices and seasonings, coffee (decaf or otherwise), cream, packets of sweetener ... those foods all have carbs. It's really easy to run up 10g or more just from those non-vegetable items I listed .. so that doesn't leave a lot of room for nuts.

Chin up!! It's only 2 weeks, you can do it
