Question Whey protien powder before or after workout?

Hello all,
I am still experimenting with whey protien powders to see which one works best for me but I had a quick question and forgive me if this sounds like a lame thing to ask. I've been working out first thing in the morning on an empty stomach and also walking and doing some ab exercises in the evening after work also on an empty stomach. But if I'm going to be doing the whey protien shake, I thought it makes sense to have it before I work out in the AM and before I go for a walk in order to enhance the benefits of the workout. Would this be the case or it doesn't really matter? I'm going to try to go to eating 5-6 small meals instead of 3 meals and see how that works for me and I thought for two of those meals the protien shake would be ideal. So it doesn't matter to me when I have them but I thought before exercising would be the best.

Any thoughts on this? Trainer Dan, Fern, anyone?

Just some feedback for those who are also thinking about experimenting with whey protien powders: I tried Whey To Go (bought at my local health food store) and it's not bad but tastes just like vanilla water with cream (I put about 1 oz.) and no sweetness in it. Also it's pretty waterly. I'm trying Metabolite from Twin Labs (French Vanilla) this afternoon. Whey To Go is very low in carbs (the vanilla - the other flavors are about 6 carbs/serving), about 1 per serving and judging from the list of ingredients it doesn't look like it has any hidden carbs. Metabolite has a little more - 3 carbs/serving (serving is 2 scoops - WTG serving is 1 scoop) with mostly whey protien but some sucralose sweetener thrown in and also some vitamins and minerals which WTG didn't have. Also, WTG specifies it's not a meal replacement but a suppliment while Metabolite does say it's a meal replacement (which is what I intend to use it for).

Thanks for the help!

Tam

Hey Tam!
Check out the AM cardio thread, if you haven't already. It will reinforce for you why you have been working out on an empty stomach already in the morning. I usually do a protein shake of some sort about a half an hour after my AM cardio.
Do what works for you!

Take care,
Linda
