Question Heavy cream vs. Half n Half

I am confused; the heavy whipping cream I use lists 1 tbs as 1 carb, yet half n half lists 2 tbs as 1 carb. From what I have read, heavy cream has 6 carbs per cup and is recommended over half n half. Is the carb level rounded up on the cream container? What does everyone use? I use heavy whipping cream in my coffee, but am thinking about switching to half n half due to lower carbs.

here's an idea: cut your heavy cream with water.

I use heavy cream in my tea in the am. only a teaspoon. that's al i normally use, unless i need it in a recipe.

I know this is off topic but what does your avatar mean?... I have that emblem on a necklace that is supposed to be Celtic and I have no clue what it means.

I use whipping crm, I only use heavy whipping crm in recipes. I don't think we're suppose to use half & half. I might be wrong. One of the more experienced LCer will come along and be able to let us know.

I believe Half and Half is a mix of milk and cream. According to fitday carbs per cup):

Milk -- 11.37g
Heavy Cream -- 6.64g
Light Cream -- 8.87g
Half and Half -- 10.41g

I'd stick with Heavy Cream...It is the lowest in carbs, and highest in fat.

whipping cream or heavy cream is usually about 35% and contains fewer carbs than half and half which is about 10%.

It would be best to use whipping cream/heavy cream.

Some of the recipes on atkins suggest using half and half like the cheddar/bacon soup (suggested for induction menu). Some recipes call for heavy cream. I'm confused now. I used half and half to make the soup this week. Oh well.

Lightbulb Cream vs. half

Sometimes Atkins can contradict itself - like the induction recipe using h'n'h.

Then again, if the box of half'n'half shows less carbs, then it shouldn't be too bad.

If people are losing fine on h'n'h, then it should be fine. Right?!?!

Just my two cents.

I suppose it's a matter of choice. I use the H&H because even though it's a tad higher in carbs, the calories are WAY different. H&H has 39 per 1 oz, heavy cream has 103 per 1 oz. Since I don't have a lot of weight to lose, I need to watch my calorie intake as well as my carbs.

As you move toward maintenance half and half may be a better coice for calorie control.

Default Heavy cream vs. half n half

Half and Half has sugar in it. So does regular cream. Heavy whipping cream does not.

Don't count calories, count carbs is the way I live.

Maybe later that will change but for now this is what I am directed to do.

It would probably depend on how sensitive you are to sugar and what your goal is, maintenance or weight loss. Mine is to keep the cravings at bay which no sugar does for me.
