She may get down to an 8, but get a 10 and make her feel even better not only when she gets into it but also when it gets too big.

I'm 5'7". Many moons ago when I weighed 150 I wore a size 12. It depends on a persons muscle to fat ratio. I might have had less muscle and more fat so was larger than some.

I were an 8 or 10 depending on make and style and I weigh 135. Thus, I'd say your friend would be a 12.

I would have to vote for size 12 also. Seriously, it's depressing when someone gives you clothes that are too small. Trust me, I've been getting them every Christmas since I was 14. It's far better to get something too big for someone and say "My goodness!! You've lost sooo much that you can't even fit into a 12!!! WOW!" It'll make her day.

I too vote for a 10. I'm 5' 7" and 175 right now (I think - not sure if that last pound is really lost yet!) and am between a 14 (too baggy) and a 12 (most 12s fit, but a few don't). My guess is she'll be between an 8 and a 10, but better to aim a little bigger and let her get a smaller size than to buy the 8 and have it be too tight.

I would say size 8. I'm 5'7 and was in an 8 at 155. If she works out, I would definately say an 8. If she doesn't and has anything significant in the hip area, I would go for a 10

It depends on her build and the manufacturer. I was 155 for many years and I am 5'7 - I always wore a size 12.

It really is up to your body type and body fat.

I weigh 164 and am only 5'4" but am in a size 10.

Very personal.

I would find out her current size, then maybe buy a dress 2 sizes smaller for motivation.

Is she measuring? If not you might suggest it to her as inches sometimes move when the scale doesn't, and it is a much better indicator. Then if you can manage to get a hold of her measurements you can ask an experienced sales person or seamstress what size you should get based on those current measurements and an estimate of what her measurements would be after reaching closer to her goal weight. An experienced dressmaker or seamstress will probably have a pretty good guess, or at lest a suggestion on a size.

I WOULDN'T BUY HER ANY DRESS!!!!
Women are so different in shapes and sizes. It depends largely on bust size and hip size. (Not to mention the manufacturer) What if she gets to goal weight and still can't wear the dress?
I am 5'6" and still have to wear a size 16 in most dresses. Even when I was really skinny I wore one size up from what most other ladies wore. It has to do with my build.
Besides, do you get a winter dress or a fall dress? Do you buy a yellow one or a blue one? (I look great in blue, but yellow makes me look jaundiced)
I would opt for a gift certificate to her favorite department store. Otherwise, maybe you should take her with you to pick it out.
