Default Newbie Question

I am on day 15 of Atkins and have been lurking in this forum and thinking I just might give this a try. I bought the CAD book about 4 years ago and tried it but was very skeptical and went off it after about a week.

My question is: DOES THIS REALLY WORK? Sure sounds like it by reading all OF these posts. It just seems too good to be true.

And also: If I wanted to go to the movies and I HAVE TO HAVE POPCORN, would I just take a sandwich or whatever with me to eat with my popcorn but just make sure I eat whatever it is within one hour? I know that doesn;t sound like a very healthy RM but would it be ok to do that once in awhile, and would butter be permitted on my popcorn?

Thanks

Yes, it does work, but it's something that takes commitment (can't give up after a few days of no weight loss) and sometimes quite a bit of "tweaking". Check out Potatofree's journal, she made the switch - very successfully I might add.

I don't know how you're doing weight loss wise on Adkins but CAD/CALP is generally slower, but it is a program you can and should do for life.

Yes, you could take your reward meal to the movies occasionally, you can eat anything you want at RM, just not everything you want! And yes, you can have butter!

Hiya bustergirl,

I would say CAD works! It is the only diet that HAS ever worked for me, for any length of time. And no signs that it is going to stop working either, after 14 months.

I have done the movie popcorn thing a couple of times. In my case, we have a Wendy's near our movie theatre, so I would have my burgers (sans buns, saving all the carbs for movie treats) just before going in to the movie. Then there would be plenty of time left in my hour for me to enjoy some popcorn and chocolate. That was in my pre-balancing days.. now I would get a salad in there too. The idea of taking in your dinner is good though, but a sandwich followed by popcorn would be really carb-heavy, unless maybe it was ultra-low carb bread?

CAD is a very do-able and liveable program. It is flexible enough to enjoy almost anything. I love it

Good luck!
