Question antibiotics

Dr Atkins really doesn't seem to rate antibiotics very highly, and says they contribute to candidiasis. I'm pretty sure that I've had way more than 10 courses of antibiotics in my life.

Anyway, I have another one now, but want to start the Atkins induction diet as soon as possible. He says you should give up any unnecessary medication. But I'm led to believe that stopping a course of antibiotics before you've finished it can be more dangerous, because that can increase the risk of development of antibiotic-resistant disease bacteria.

But antibiotics themselves are only for 14 days each time. I'm wondering if it's a good idea to start Atkins induction whilst taking antibiotics - or do you think I ought to wait until they're finished? Thanks.

While I cannot say anything about the medical site on this issue - I would suggest for your piece of mind to just wait.

You are going through a lot of pre-steps to get everything just right and by the book - if you start the diet while still on antibiotics, you'll never get passed the "what if's". I'd say wait those few days and eliminate having to worry about it.

Just my thoughts - but as stated above, not based on medical or nutritional knowledge.

Hi there Squidgy,

You say in your journal that the doctor prescribed antibiotic drops for your ear. That is not the same thing at all as taking a course of systemic antibiotics(course of tablets or injections).
So I can't see any reason not to begin low carbing.

In fact, I can't see any reason not to start even if you were taking systemic a'bs.

Good luck to you, mate.

Rosebud
