Hi there J......
First let me welcome another Beautiful British Columbian to the forum! It's great to have you here.
I will celebrate my one year anniversary of doing Atkins on September 13...less than a month away. My point is that I have a fair bit of experience under my (8.5" smaller) belt.
Since LCing is about a complete change of eating habits for most of us as well as something we need to undertake for a lifetime, it's more important, I think, to make this fit us well enough that it will be something we can do.
That said, I would recommend that you be careful with the Splenda. Not so much because it will most likely stall you if used in any quantity over about a teaspoon a day, but because if you had a habit of indulging your sweet craving, then you may be out of control in a new way. Too much sweet is still too much, whether it's high or low carb.
My personal goal is to have my eating habits under control for the first time in my life. I have learned that certain foods become a habit with me and I have a voracious hunger for them. It's a lot easier to stay in control if I avoid these foods. Yes, I do sometimes still have an urge for them and when I choose to indulge it, as I did for about a month, with creamcheese mixed with cocoa powder and splenda, then I accept the resulting 'stall' as my payment fot it.
LOL....and you probably just wanted someone to say: Eat as much splenda as you like, it won't hurt! Too bad it's not that simple.
I wish you every success on your LC journey.
