Question I have a question re: bacon

I'm thinking about making this tonight:
bacon, mayo and american cheese wrapped in romaine lettuce

However, I don't think I can have just one!! Is there a limit as to how much bacon I can have? I haven't consumed many calories today, so I'm hoping I can have more than one . Plus, I'm REEEEEALY craving it for some reason!

Thanks in advance!

Angie

Hi Angie - you just go ahead and eat until you are satisfied.

This early on, you can't do yourself too much damage if you have yourself a little fat-fest. Heck, even later on you can't do too much damage. Dinner sounds delicious by the way.

What time should I be there?

I've wondered about bacon, too. Angie, I have a quick meal similar to yours -- but simpler! Just bacon, wrapped in butter lettuce. I could eat half a pound! One reads that anything one craves can be a trigger or danger signal. (I'm still eating bacon. I couldn't do this WOE without it. I eat the regular bacon, though. The nonprocessed kind is too hard to find and too expensive.)

Thanks LC Sponge
I'm off to buy some good ol' bacon!!
(BTW, dinner is in 1 hr. I'll make extra for you, but if you don't show, I guess I'll have to eat it myself.... ) lol

And Alto, I can't afford the unprocessed stuff either. I haven't had much processed meats since I started so I don't know how it'll affect me, but I guess it'll be trial and error until then.

Thanks again!
Angie

Before I got FAT - (it's a long story) I used to be somewhat of a low-carber by nature. I would sit in the evening and my TREAT was to cook up 1/2 pound of bacon and sit and eat it (I'm a salt-craver rather than a sugar-junkie).

I weighed 134 (and I'm about 5'8") at the time should have known a good thing back then when I saw it..... THEN LOW FAT MENTALITY SET IN and I didn't eat bacon for YEARS!!!! And as a consequence, I got fat.

Now I'm a happy skinny woman eating bacon every day.

Party-hardy Angie and Alto!!

Most natural kind I can - lots of the pre-packaged brands have maple syrup in them - I get mine in bulk from a butcher - it's no more expensive.

I was afraid it was the natural kind. Actually, it isn't easy to find unprocessed here, and it is much more expensive -- $4.00 for half a pound is more than I can pay for bacon. You would think, living in a major metropolitan area, that finding a butcher would be easy, but we have either very expensive delis and natural food stores or very ordinary supermarkets.

so you are saying that these packaged bacon, such as oscar mayer or thorn apple valley have carbs? Well, hidden carbs? Because it say 0 carbs. Please let me know because I too love my bacon. In fact Im going to the fridge to check the package to make sure there is no syrup in it. This WOE is turning out to be not as easy it seems. Oh lordy. sabrina

Don't worry Sabrina - if the package says 0 carbs per serving then you can be assured that there is less than 1 g carb per serving.

Some packaged bacons add maple syrup, those are the ones you have to watch.

That makes me feel alittle better LC Sponge. If it has maple syrup do they generally specify maple syrup on the pkg? The bacon I use is from Sam's Club, I am not sure if you have one of those where you live, but its hickory flavored and the ingredients say sugar in it, but then again so does hellmans mayo. This is what gets me. It doesn't specify what kind of sugar. Sabrina

Just so I'm sure I understand, LCSponge, do you recommend avoiding processed bacon primarily because of sweeteners (i.e., maple syrup) rather than the chemicals? Or, put more simply, is eating sugarless processed bacon -- 0 carb bacon -- OK? (I know there are those who sound alarms at certain chemicals used to make bacon, and I'm sure they're right. It's just that right now, they're better than Lucky Charms, or potato chips )

Question Salt in Bacon

While we are on the bacon thread, what about the salt in bacon? I have slightly high blood pressure and slightly high chloresterol and am looking to make those better. I don't currently have the option of natural bacon, at least until I speak enough German to ask at the butchers here. But I love bacon in the mornings. So what have you heard about this?
