Default Hello from a former Lurker!

Hello All,
I have been lurking around here for a while, and thought it time to join, and introduce myself.
I am a married woman, with 3 dogs, 3 cats, and no kids yet. My husband and I, with help from a friend, are in the process of building a house. As soon as we get another bedroom and bathroom finished this summer, we are going to start trying to get pregnant. (but the friend won't be helping with that! )

I have had weight issues most of my life, did the bad diets etc. Everything came to a head at the end of 2000. I had finally finished my BA (I don't know why they call it a 4 year degree, it took me 12 ) and was at an all time high that was at least 200lb. I don't know exactly, I was scale-a-phobic. I had decided not to worry about weight till after I graduated. (My graduation pictures are very *fluffy*)

In July of 2001, I acknowledged defeat (trying to lose weight on my own had never, ever worked) and joined WW. It had always worked for my mother, I figured it would work for me. By July 2002, I had lost 50lbs. But of course, now I was hungry all the time and everything I ate made me sick.

It wasn't until May 2003, after we had started building the house, and after both my mother and sister were trying Atkins, that I finally decided to give Atkins I try. Its been great ever since. I had been unable to digest eggs for years and years (and it had gotten worse on WW), but within 2 weeks on Atkins, I was able to eat eggs again.

This January, I started the Neanderthin diet after I realized I am probably sensitive to dairy and gluten. I am after all allergic to everything else (dust, mold, pollen, and animals) I would rather give up bread than give up my dogs. My allergies have been alleviated, I stopped taking my meds 6 weeks into the Neanderthin diet. No allergy problems yet, and there is pollen everywhere down here, my car is yellow from it!

The really funny thing is, I started feeding my pets a Raw (BARF) diet in January 2000, ironically, for their health. One of my cats has really bad allergies, just like me. Even though I saw how healthy they were on it, I resisted trying Low Carb for 3 more years! I was brainwashed by the low fat/high carb propaganda. And I consider myself a flexible person.... and it took me 3 years! Its a wonder that so many of us have overcome the 'brainwashing' to go to some version of low carb. c'est la vie.

Well, that's the quick and the dirty version. If you have questions, feel free to ask.

Batgirl,

Welcome to the board! Your success is awesome...a real testiment to this WOL. Congratulations also in finishing your BA. It took me 14 years and boy was it worth it!

I think that's great that you are building your own house!

Thumbs up

batgirl, Welcome from central Florida. Congrats on your successes. I am not familiar with the Neanderthin diet, and was wondering if you could provide info on that WOE or maybe there is info online or in one of the other forums that you can point me too. I have so many diet books now, I hate to buy another one.
