Default Ketone question

My husband's ketone strips consistently show negative, but he is losing weight (we are on day 6 of Induction). He seems to think, from reading DANDR, that if his ketone strips don't kick in pretty soon that it is not safe.

I didn't get that at all from the book, but can anyone help me out here? I don't know if he's looking for reasons to eat a bagel (not really!) or what. I know he wants to stick with it, but he's pretty discouraged.

Any suggestions?

please reassure your hubby that he is perfectly safe! 1st thing U said he is losing weight? Thats the main thing...the strips are really unimportant but most people try them just to see. The one thing about them is u DONT want them to read dark purple..means U arent drinking enough water. Some people never get above the trace amount yet consistantly lose weight. So in the end tell him to back off from that bagel...LOL

Several things affect those cute little strips:

1) Water intake
2) Excercise
3) Age of the bottle
4) Moisture

If hubby is drinking lots of water and working out, he is probably burning and flushing 90 percent of the ketones thereby leaving none to show on the strips.

What time of day is he using them? I know the book says at night, however I recommend to newbies first thng in the morning so they don't drive themselves batty trying to get those strips to change color.

Take heart, if he is losing weight, and drinking lots of water, things are just fine.

Tell him to take a deep breath and relax and enjoy a luxurious dinner.
