Question For those who track calories - does Fiber Count?

I eat a lot of fiber on this WOL - between psyllium husks, flaxomeal, Tortillas, and all the fresh vegetables -

my question for all those who care to count calories is - do you include fiber calories in your daily calorie counts?

If so or not - why?

TIA!

Hi, I'm not doing atkins right now, so I am having quite a bit of fibre in my diet. I track calories even tho the plan I'm using is more interested in keeping carbs low on the glycemic index . I track my fibre, but do not subtract them from either calorie or carbs. The reason I don't is I have never found a formula for deducting fibre calories from the whole calorie. I know there is the ECC for carbs but I prefer to count the whole as I feel its safer to be a bit under than over.

In the book for the F-Plan and Dr. Rubensteins - Save Your Life Diet(not specifically a weight loss) they do mention the caloric advantage gained by eating high fibre because of the undigestable fibre eaten, I think it was about 200 calories a day but the fibre on these diets is extremely high, F-Plan aims for 40grms fibre a day. That would be very hard to do on a low carb plan.

I remember reading somewhere that for every gram of fiber you intake, you can subtract 9 calories from your diet.

This is pretty much because fiber is unable to be digested and therefore requires some energy to get rid of it.
