Question Need Opinions about Low Carb Bars...

Hey everyone! It is my second day of induction and so far so good!! But I do want some opinions. Is it bad to eat low carb bars while on induction. I have a hard time just sticking to meats and whatnot and I find the bars to be a nice change. I have been eating two a day for the past two days and I was wondering if this would be detremental to my weight loss. I have been staying withing the 20 carbs a day...Thanks!!

Sure. But instead of using the whole bar as a meal replacement, cut the bar in four small pieces and have a piece after every meal as a dessert!

By the way, you can eat eggs too. Be sure to eat enough fat. It satisfies me and take my mind off sugar cravings.

Hi Megs,

Dr Atkins pretty much says to use the bars for emergency use only - if you are out and have no access to other LC food for example.

The problem with the bars is that they contain sugar alcohols. Now Dr Atkins insists that they don't affect insulin levels, and that is true for many people, BUT many others find their weight loss stalls when they eat the bars.

Sugar alcohols can also have a most unfortunate laxative effect.

You'll find more info about sugar alcohols (and a lot of other things) in "Low Carb Tips" on the orange bar at the top of the screen.

Personally I think you are better off sticking to fresh whole foods at least during Induction. How about checking our recipe sections for some ideas?

I'm one of the people who can't eat them at all without a blood sugar reaction. Do without them on induction, then try adding them back in in a limited amount, if they affect you, leave them alone. Nyah Levi

hi

I'm a mom on the go.. eat in the car.. run run run... forgot to breathe person. It is very hard for me during the day to have fresh food. I am working very hard on this and making extra for dinner so I can have food available on hand for lunch the next day. I also do some fast food - boston market chicken with green beans (4carbs) yummy.. no mcdonalds for me.

I carry a bar in my purse all the time. That way when I am lightheaded or hungry I have something to nibble on. Everyone is different and I limit myself to no more than 1 bar a day..but there are days I do not eat the bars.

I say that try to eat "real" food, but it is better to eat a bar than french fries and bread. Dont kill yourself trying to be perfect. I was like that for sooo long.. either doing it all perfect, or then waddling in guilt and pigging out. I find that sometimes allowing yourself leway helps get through tough times.

Also when I psychologically say I can have bars all the time.. I tend to not want them.

Hope this helps a bit

Ilona

Bars knock me out of ketosis and start hunger for the rest of the day - - Some of us our intolerant of the glycerin. So be weary on how many you eat...test yourself...if you see your color is fading or no longer showing...stop.
