I am curious about this as well, it is recomended to aid in the burning of fat, but it is also pretty pricey... has anyone actually found that it helped them?

L-Carnitine helps with fat metabolism. I take it everyday (2000 mg). It is also good for circulation (heart function).

KristyC:

Is 2000 mg the recommended dosage? I started out taking liquid L-Carnitine at 900 mg a day and now I upped it to 2 500 mg pills, even though the bottle says to take one daily. What brand are you taking?

i've been taking L-Carnitine for 4 days now and yes, i do believe it helps with rapiding my metabolism rate. Atkin recommended 1500mg per day but im only taking 2 x 500mg = 1000g (before lunch & dinner) because im quite small build and didnt want to introduce a large quantity of L-Carnitine into my body so hastily.

Since taking this, I feel that my body temperature is warmer and I get thirsty and feel dry. My appetite seem to have decreased also (even tho there is no proof that L-Carnitine depresses appetitie per se), but this is perhaps due to the fact that L-Carnitine channel my existing fats into energy and less I feel less need to eat? Either way, its all good for me!

The brand im using is "Musashi", retailing AUS$102 (around US$75) for 90g. I wont use this long term because as mentioned, it is pricey. Im currently taking this with CoQ10.

Atkins recommends 1500 mg, I think. I began taking 2000 mg. after talking with a nutritional expert at my all natural food store...she said 2000 is the recommended dosage for weight loss for most people. Some days, I take only 1500...it is hard for me to remember to take all the supplements I take LOL.

After reading some of the posts on this stuff, I went and bought some along with the Co Q-10. Now that I have it, what do I do with it? I have the 500mg of carnitine, and 50mg of Q-10 - how much do I take each day and when?

Atkins recommends 1.5g of L-Carnitine as a starting dose... that's 3 tablets a day, one with each meal.

Is Acetyl L-Carnitine the same as L-carnitine? Just because a bottle seems much cheaper. The regular l-carnitine is unbelievably expensive (1 bottle of 30 500mg pills was over £20 = $40!!)
Any ideas?

Avlev meant to say, normal L-Carnitine is 30 tabs for £10.99 in Holland & Barret, or 120 for £23.99 from www.affordablesupplements.co.uk plus several other online suppliers.

Bamagirl, it was suggested to me on this board to take the Co-Q10 and L-carnitine on an empty stomach because they are aminos. If you can't tolerate that, take them with food. I was taking L-carnitine but ran out so I quit taking it. I didn't see any significant changes other than I craved sweets really bad at first. Of course, I ALWAYS crave sweets and Atkins will never change that for me, nor will any pill that I might take. The dose I took was 1500 mg (three pills a day) of L-carnitine & 100 mg (two pills a day) of Co-Q10.
