Default Dr Atkins low-carb diet blamed-

for dropping flour use according to an article in paper today.
Article by AP writer says flour consumption in US has plummeted to record lows.

"Producers and milling companies believe the Atkins approach is the culprit."

"It's not our fault that 64 percent of the population is overweight" says Colette Heimowitz, director of education and research at Atkins Health and Medical Information Services. She pointed out that the Atkins diet encourages eating whole grains in certain phases of the program.

Judi Adams, a registered dietitian who heads the Wheat Foods Council says "We cannot blame obesity on carbohydrates. We're eating too many calories. There have not been any studies that show refined carbs are harmful. That's absolutely not the truth that refined carbs are bad for you."

Just my thoughts:
I think everyone here can attest to how much better they feel after cutting their carb intake. Sounds like the Atkins plan is gaining by leaps and bounds. Maybe the food manufacturers will take heed and give us more products at competitive prices?
