Angry Metabolism

Hi all. I have been on Atkins for over three years lost 40 pounds, got a job siting on my tush all day and gained 14 back. Lost 5 and now need to get the last 9 off. But has anyone heard of getting their metabolism tested? It was advertised in TV Guide a fw weeks ago. Anyway I did and guess what my metabolism is 1070. That is a resting metabolism. I can add another 25% in calories to that number and if I want to lose weight I have to eat less that 1320 calories a day. Give or take a few calories. Now on Atkins we don't count calories. So what do I do? If I eat less that 1,000 calories a day, I will slow down my metabolism even more. Any suggestions other than exercise at this point? I work full time, I have two kids, husband, house, you know the drill. And it's too darm cold to walk here in NJ. IN Spring, I'll start walking, but right now. What do I do?
Celeste

How about weightlifting three times a week? This would make you burn more. You could do it every other day. I think it helps to speed up your metbolism. I don't think you should eat 1000 calories that will slow your metbolism down even more.

In addition to exercising (always important), there are 2 supplements which may help you some according to Dr. Atkins: L-carnitine & Coenzyme Q10. Both are available at a health food store & even some pharmacies. L-carnitine is usually 500mg before each meal (if eating 3 meals), & COQ10 is usually 100mg once per day with a meal. These aren't diet pills, but they aid the body in burning fat as fuel and are suggested for people with high metabolic resistance. Look in The New Diet Revolution for more details. Good luck.
God Bless,

Also check the nutrition & supplement thread... i've read a lot about green tea supplements on that thread & in the general exercise thread... the consensus seems to be that they are supposed to increase your metabolism by 4% - 500mg per day with 60% polynols.

Yes, because you will build muscle and muscle burns more calories than fat does and muscle weighs more and yet takes less space than fat. I saw a comparison once of 1 pound of muscle versus one pound of fat, and the one pound of fat looked to be about 4 times bigger than the same weight of muscle. If you have some small free-weights even light ones, and could do even 10 or 15 minutes every second day it would help up the metabolism. Getting some cardio in will help also - lets hope for walking weather soon
