Default Induction - what are we doing wrong?

I would appreciate it if someone would look at my FitDay and tell me what is I'm doing wrong. I've lost five pounds and yes that's good but my guess is it's just water weight. Haven't lost anything in 3 days and I would have thought during induction I'd see better results.

One question too as I read Atkins book is there seems to be inconsistencies. He says in many places one salad a day during induction. But, when you look at a sample daily menu there is a toss salad for lunch and also one for dinner, that's two a day. What to believe???

Thanks
Kris

Hiya
At a glance I'd say you're not getting enough carbs (and too much protein on some days). You need to subtract "carbs from fibre" from total carbs to get your Real carb figures - and this is what should be around 20. I'd say up your veggie intake. I don't think anyone ever stalled from too much salad Also, watch out for cheese - some people do find it slows them down...

Cheers

Hi,

looking at your stats; 14% progress since Sept. 15 I see one thing: you are doing everything right! This is how it goes, the water weight always goes first. Please don't expect miracles, don't get yourself discouraged - this is not a fast weight loss plan. Ask anyone here who is close to their goal, everyone will tell you the same: be patient and you will get there. But it will take time.

As for the carbs, do not go under 20/day and try to get most of them from vegetables.

Best of luck to you!

Alina

Sinbad,

So are you saying if I had 18 grams of carbs for the day and 5 grams of fiber, my actual carb intake would be 13?

Thanks
Kris

Kris: Yup, that exactly what I'm saying
Fibre isn't digested so it doesn't contribute to nutrition at all...
Like Alina said, though, your progress is still pretty damn good!

Congrats
Steven

OK, I see you've changed to 11% - still 10% progress is very good for two weeks of induction. And excellent for one.

Trust the plan - it is working!

Isn't it great to know you're doing it right?

Hi Kris!
IMHO it looks like you're doing pretty good! If you keep up what you're doing you will hit your target weight. Maybe there is some fine tuning you can do to speed it up (just don't speed it up too much as slow loss is good). I see you walked a couple of days....exercise is great...if you could up it to 3-6 days a week it might help. As Sinbad said make sure you don't under do the carbs...it's net carbs that count.
As for the salad I believe it says 3 cups a day of Salad type veggies or 1 cup a day of other veggies.
Keep it up and I think you're going to do great!

Alina,

Yes, I gained one of those pounds back so I changed it after I posted. So I've lost a total of 5lbs in a week. Again I know it's not bad, but it has to be mostly water weight. I want the fat gone!

Default slow and easy...

I started june 29th and I have lost a total of 10-10 1/2 lbs. I have
stalled for weeks at a time, but the good news is that I am not gaining
weight with this WOL and that I am not going hungry. I went on vacation
for 2 weeks this summer and maintained. that was a biggie.

The first 2 weeks I was really bummed. lost 4 and then gained 1. I was
wondering why the weight was not melting off like others. I dont
have as much to lose, so that is part of it, but also, you did not gain
it in 2 weeks, so it will not come off in 2 weeks.

Sandy

On page 176 of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution book, date 1992 I believe it says "Now that you've moved on from the one-salad simplicity of Induction phase of the ATkins diet". On page 174, same book, it says "you eat beyond that one salad you ate on the Induction level." Referring to OWL as you move beyond Induction. Why is it so contradictory? On page 237 of that same book where is shows a typical induction meal there are two salads.

Then on page 79 of the Induction diet it says 3 cups of salad vegetables.

I am really confused here.

Hiya
There's a revised edition (2001) and I suspect it is more up to date and consistent...

One more questions though. Why is it 20 carbs no more no less? What the principle behind it. Yes I've read the book but I'm still not sure exaclty the why?

Well, Dr A tried various levels... 20g was low enough to kick you into ketosis as fast as possible while breaking cravings. Any lower and there was no visible benefit - so 20g is an almost comfortable level. You DO need some carbs to function healthily - 20g give you that.
