Default Please Help, questions about bars or candies whatever

Hi, I am on my second day of induction. I was doing really well. I felt like some weight might be coming off. Then I went to the store and bought some low carb bars and these peanut butter Atkins cups. I only ate one peanut butter cup and one bite of a bar and I feel really like I gained weight!!!!!!!!!!

If you "feel like you've gained weight" but haven't actually weighed yourself, it's probably all psychological. One peanut butter bar or candy isn't going to cause weight gain.

Ease up on yourself and give this way of eating a chance. I'm surprised you need sugar free candies so soon. Try avoiding them for as long as you can and see if your desire for sweet things decreases. It almost always does! That's one of the great side-effects of low carb.

Good luck to you!

thanks so much for the reply...yeah I dont know why I am craving stuff probably because I have eaten whatever I wanted my whole life and as much as I want and I have never restricted myself before but as I eased closer to 150 I started to get freaked out since I am 21 my metabolism might be slowing down.
I need to stay on this diet for a while and I am reading the book and everyything. I am glad I found this support here thanks again!
By the way!!
Love your quote at the bottom and congrats on being pregnant!!
Do you still do low carb while pregnant?
Thanks!

Thanks for the congrats! This is child number 4 for me, so it's like old hat at this point! (Oh, again, really?)

Yes, I am trying to lo carb while pregnant -- BUT NOT A DIET! I try to keep my carbs between 60 - 75. This way I don't gain weight too quickly and I also don't go into ketosis (bad for the baby).

I actually follow CAD more than Atkin's, which allows those extra carbs once a day, but during pregnancy, it's all very modified.

Anything new is difficult, so allow yourself mistakes and allow yourself time to find what works for you. Every one's body is different. Do try to avoid sweets altogethr for the first two weeks (if you're doing Atkin's). You've got to look at it as getting over an addiction. (Strange thinking, I know, but it's truly how our bodies work). Most of us people fighting with our weight are "addicted" to carbohydrates to some degree and we'll get the mental signals to run out and eat sugar as soon as our bodies realize we aren't getting it. We have to suffer with great will power through that period to get to the easier phase where we simply aren't interested in eating them anymore. (Yes, that actually happens!)

Best of luck to you. Tell yourself hourly if you have to, "I can do this!" It's a great way of eating.

Jeannie

Marielle...

I'd really encourage you to not have the low carb candy during induction. This is the time that you are getting your sugar and carb cravings under control and it's difficult for most to do if they are feeding the cravings even if it's with low carb substitutes. Give it a try. I'd bet by the end of the two weeks you won't feel like you want that stuff anymore.
That "feeling like you gained weight" feeling could be from the sugar alcohols in the candy. Maltitol can cause a good deal of bloating and gas in most folks.
