Unhappy Please Help!

After reading Dr Atkins book I have found that at the beginning of the book is says that your induction should consist of 20g of carbs a day. Now that I am further in I have now read that it should have been 15g per day - can sombody explain?

Induction is 20g carbs from what I have ever read. After that you should slowly increase your carbs to a level where you will still loose by increasing vegetables and adding in some fruit.

Hi Abbi!

Yes, I noticed the same thing.

In another place he says to allow yourself one 170 gram green salad a day in induction and make everything else meat, fish and eggs.

Maybe this one salad thing is a better plan for induction. You can increase the carbs later. The one salad thing worked for me during induction.

Best of luck from a fellow Brit (now living in Belarus.)

Robert

In the white book, Chapter 11 deals with the Induction Phase. The "Rules of Induction" are on pages 122 - 130. This is what everyone should be following while in Induction. If you don't have the white book, go to the website and see if your book matches the lastest information.

If you don't see the pounds moving during Induction or OWL, turn to chapter 20 in the white book: Metabolic Resistance: Causes and Solutions". Here, he outlines every known cause for weight loss resistance and gives suggestions for helping get past the stall.

Hi Abbi,

Have you read the 2002 (white cover) book? It really does help to read the latest information available.
In it, there is nothing about cheese being free. On page 125 in "Other Foods Acceptable During Induction" he says to have 3 to 4oz daily.
And on page 190, in the "How to get past a plateau" section, he says "Don't go whole hog on the cheese and nuts."

And to hark back to the 20g carbs during Induction (no mention of 15g!) remember that you can subtract fibre carbs, leaving quite a lot of vegies available. I've found that I can actually have up to 6 or 7 cups and still be under 20g!

Cheers, matey!

Rosebud

PS: If you don't have access to the latest book, this info is available on Dr A's website at www.atkinscenter.com

Thanks again for responding.

I dont have the white book only the Orange one, I thought that this was the latest book, its a bit confussing, because in this book he says that eggs and cheese and "free" foods! However it's ony my second week and I lost 7lb in my first so I am quite happy with the progress! I must be doing something right. How often should I weigh myself - once a week??

You sure are - congratulations!

Absolutely your call, Abbi. Some folk (er, me, for example ) feel the lure of the scales daily, others weigh weekly or monthly and some brave folk try not to weigh at all - preferring to go by the tape measure or a piece of clothing that started out too tight (the pant-o-meter ).
I'm not sure it matters, myself!

Cheers!

Default Hi

Hi Rosebud

I must admit its quite tempting to weigh myself every day, maybe twice a week would be a half way call!

I just get concerned that I can eat all these nice things and always feel guilty after I have eaten, thinking that I have made a mistake, suppose it's like no other diet and I will get used to it!

Thanks again for your help

Abbi
