Default Sugar Free vs. No Sugar Added

I don't quite understand the difference. When I read the labels it doesn't always have sugar in the list of ingredients. Can I have some of the no sugar added treats on SBD I'm still in phase 1

What specific items are you refering to? In phase one you can have the sugar free jello, gum, popsicles and fudgesicles. I am not sure what items would be no sugar added?

Some things will say no sugar added because they have natural sugar in them such as fructose or lactose..but they haven't added any ADDITIONAL sugar to it....is that what you mean?
Anything that usually has an "ose" in them is some sort of sweetener and you should be careful of. Fructose is sugar from fruit, lactose is sugar from milk, maltose is usually from barley (beer), sucrose (table sugar) etc. and watch out for corn syrup!

Splenda on the other hand is called sucralose and we like that one!

hope that helps.....

Hi,

I started Phase 2 today and boy did I feel weird! Eating a slice of whole wheat bread was satisfying I must say , but I almost felt that I was going to gain back the weight I loss. I have come to enjoy not eating breads and pasta like a I used too . I hope I can do this right because my biggest problem was not so much breads but sugars in the form of cakes candies etc..

Thanks for the info. I have noticed it more on popsicle and fudge bars etc. Is "no sugar added" allowed on SBD?

You should read the label to find out how many carbs it has. Subtract the fiber grams. If the carbs are higher than 10 or so for the amount you are considering eating, you might want to pass.

The marketing folks are great at making processed food seem healthy for a low carb dieter, but the label doesn't lie (or it is a federal offense).

Also, read the ingredient list and see if they have used some weird stuff you might be better off without.
