Question home cholesteral tests?

Do you find home cholesteral tests to be accurate. I did a home test before a started my induction and the reading was pretty high. Has anyone else used one?

I used one before one of my lab tests (the night before) and it read a good 30-40 points higher than the lab test did. The home tests also don't give you any idea what the breakdown on the actual numbers are (triglycerides, HDL and LDL), only a total number which may or may not be very accurate.
I probably wouldn't spend my money on one again.

I used a home test the morning of my blood work and it read about 30 points lower than the lab.

I'm one of those guys that has to have all the good gadgets so I got one of these http://www.monitor-cholesterol.com/.../home_care.html . It seems to be very accurate though pricey($5 per test strip). It also provides a breakdown of HDL, LDL, triglycerides, and total cholesterol.

My mother has been refusing to go to the doctor for MANY YEARS so this might be just the thing for her. I have been really worried about her.

Do the "cholesterol" strips tell the total # and the LDL number - I noticed separate strips for HDL...

The way it works is that one strip is used to test the total cholesterol(TC), one is used to test your HDL and one is used to test your triglycerides(Tri). You then use a formula something like LDL = TC – HDL – Tri/5 to calculate your LDL. So it requires three strips to get all the numbers which amounts to $15 worth of strips.
