Default Grain-free coffee substitute

Hi

I'm trying to work on a suitable substitute for coffee, and suddenly remembered a friend of mine used to make hers using dandelion root. I've since come across a more in-depth recipe using dandelion root, holy thistle root, sasparilla root, Irish moss, ginseng root, liquorice root, orange peel and carob powder...

But aside from carob powder, I've no idea what the carb content is for these ingredients!

Anybody else know where to find them, or have any other grain-free "coffee" recipes to share?

Chicory root is a popular substitute. In fact, there's a coffee blend from New Orleans called Cafe du Monde that is a blend of chicory and coffee.

I don't have any recipes, but here's a suggestion. Have you checked any natural foods stores? They usually have premade blends as well as instant. A tea shop here in Vancouver has a really tasty blend so you might also try checking a tea shop.
