Default Joe's Special

This may have been posted before but I happened to think of it this morning while deciding on breakfast so I made it for the first time in years.
This is a well know dish from the Original Joe's in San Francisco. Sometimes called San Francisco Special. This is how I made it for one person though it was a bit more than I could eat.

Joe's Special

5 oz regular ground beef
1/2 cup muchrooms
2 green onions sliced
1 clove garlic minced
1/2 cup spinach, lightly cooked and chopped, (can use frozen chopped)
2-3 eggs lightly beaten _ (I used 2)
Salt and pepper to tate

Brown beef in wide skillet, add mushrooms, green onions, and garlic. Cook until mushrooms are done. Stir in Spinach. Stir in eggs and cook until eggs are done. Season to taste.

573 cal, 42 gr. fat, 41 gr. proten, 7 gr. carb, 3 gr. fiber

Default A Popeye

Hi all,

BarbCa, this is popular at a place 'round the corner from me where it is called a "Popeye omlet." I follow you in giving it a real thumb's up.

I've avoided the restaurant, where prices are very reasonable, 'cause all the breakfast specials come with hash browns or home fries, toast or muffins, and a stack of really good hotcakes.

Why didn't I ever think of making it at home? Thanks for posting it.

Default Eat At Joe's!

Wow, I haven't thought about a Joe's Special in ages. Last time I had one at a restaurant they garnished it with freshly-grated Parmesan and it made quite a difference in the flavor. I've seen somewhere that the original Joe's recipe used sausage, and had the eggs cooked separately, then arranged around the spinach and meat combo on the plate. I'll see if I can dig up the reference sometime.

In the meantime, I just might have that for lunch tomorrow!
