Question Really thirsty?

Does anybody else have any problems with being really thirsty while eating LC? Just in the past week I've noticed I have an almost unquenchable thirst. I drink about 100 oz. of water per day. I don't drink sodas or anything like that. I know that diabetes can cause this, but a week before starting the diet my doctor did a bunch of blood tests, and I specifically asked him if I was borderline diabetes, and he said not even close. So I don't think that's the problem. I've tried drinking more water, but it depletes my sodium and then I have trouble being dizzy.

The only other thing I can think it might be is the weather. It's turned colder (not cold because I live in So. Calif. and for most people the 50's are pleasantly warm) and it's become very dry (about 34% humidty). The dryness is made worse because we've been using the heat at night. I've never had this in past winters though.

Anybody have this issue and found a solution? It's driving me nuts!
Thanks!
Bonnie

Yes, I definitly notice that Im thirsty A LOT! But, we are supposed to drink tons of water so I look at it as a blessing since I used to have trouble meeting my daily water goals.

Im no expert but it probably has something to do with our state of ketosis thats causing our thirst-

I think the only solution is to have a bottle of water handy at all times to sip on-thats what I do-and drink, drink, drink!!!

Good luck. I dont necessarily think your thirst is a bad thing-probably quite natural on this way of eating-so embrase it!!! LoryH

If the heat is on you might have no humidity in the air. This pulls more water out of your body that you would think. Try getting a humidifier and seeing if that will help.
If you drink more water and get dizzy, try more salt as well. Unless you have a problem with it.

I have noticed that the more water I drink, the more water I want. Before low-carbing I was lucky to drink 30 ounces of water a day. Now I'm around 80-120, depending, and I get an awful cotton-mouth feeling all the time if I don't take a few sips every 10 minutes. I must constantly have a bottle of water by my side.

I love the way the extra water has helped my skin look clearer, but all these trips to the bathroom are really cutting into my work day!

I started Atkins in June of this year and averaged around 100oz which satisfied my thirst. About a month or so ago it got cold and we put on the furnace. I immediately noticed my thirst REALLY increased then. It's got to be the winter. It kind of freaked me out and I was trying to figure out what was going on. I finally pegged it on the dry heated air.

Thanks for all the replies! I think I'll look into a humidifier. It sounds like the combination of the diet and dry heater air are causing the problem. I have to do something because I hate being so thirsty all the time!!

if you are thirsty drink more. By the time you feel thirsty you are already dehydrated. We need lots of fluid on this plan because of several reasons. The first is the extra protein we eat on the plan has a diuretic effect. Then being in ketosis and burning fat from our fat cells causes our bodies to add fluid to the tissues causing us to need more water. You want to be well hydrated so your liver can concentrate on doing the work the Atkins program needs it to do to help you burn those fats and not assisting in filtering wastes from the body. The warm dry air will cause more evaporate fluid loss from your body also. the simplest way to cure it is to drink more.
Happy low carbing to you.
