Hello,
I'm old and new here. Turning 50 on Feb 5th and son is getting married in October, so desperately need to finish losing weight. I have used low carbing off and on before and worked well. Need help and inspiration as I have been floundering since Halloween. Not sure why! Thanks for listening.

Hello and welcome!

Early congrats on your reaching 50. It's my turn in April (still can't believe it!). By October you have a chance to lose a nice chunk of weight. You can do it!

Hi and welcome! First off get all that nasty hi-carb temptations out of the house, my downfall is chips and cheese-its! Then maybe you wont fall off as easy? Just a suggestion. If you need any support just let me know I will do my best to help ya!

Hi loozinit,
I can relate..I had a hard a hard time getting back to eating correctly after the holidays.
I'm 51, and our current stats and goals are quite similar. Congrats on your amazing success so far! You're doing beautifully!
All I would suggest is that you start from scratch, empty out cupboards and refrigerator of everything you shouldn't, and don't want to, be eating. Then after a day or two of giving yourself a "pep talk" about how YOU ARE WORTH THE EFFORT, go for it!
If I can help, email me anytime at rose_32008~yahoo.com. Maybe we can give each other a kick in the pants every now and then when it's needed.
Don't give up..this is the right direction..whether it takes 6 more months or 6 more years..we will get there ! !
Hang in there!
Lesle

Thanks for the support. I sure can use it. I'm down 2 lbs today, so all is well, but a long way to go. My best to you all.

Hi there loozinit! You're taking the right steps to getting back on track - look how far you have come and all the incentives to keep going. I'm a year ahead of you in the age category and for me it adds a bit of urgency. You can do it!!

Happy early birthday and congrats on your loss so far.

My advice, not that you asked for it, is to quit low carbing 'on and off'. Going back and forth is the worst thing you can do on Atkins. It can make you more resistant to weight loss every time you go off and on. Secondly, get rid of that feeling of desparation as far as your weight loss is concerned. I'm sure your son loves you no matter what your weight is and, while it's nice to want to look as nice as possible for his wedding, I'm sure he couldn't care less if you show up at 125 or 525 as long as you are there. I know that's how my son feels anyway (he's 24).

Sometimes putting too much pressure on yourself to lose x number of pounds by such and such a date can backfire on you. If things don't move as quickly as you think they should be, you can get discouraged and turn to food for comfort. You can't control the rate at which your body will release fat. All you can control is your own behavior. So just vow to stick with the plan 100%, drink your water, and exercise and one thing is for sure, even if you're not completely where you want to be by Oct., you'll be a heck of a lot closer than you are now! Good luck!
