Question Iodized salt question.

Hello all. I have a stupid question. I was just chillin this morning, eating a hard boiled egg, sprinkling some salt on it from a small packet and happened to notice the ingredients.

Iodized salt from Diamond Crystal Brands
Contains: Salt, Sodium Silicoaluminate, Dextrose, Potassium Iodide

Dextrose?? Could that little amount in salt hinder things? Any opinions? I know for a fact I'm not giving up salt. Love it too much. Does all salt have sugar of sorts in it? I was not aware.

Thanks in advance.
Kirsten

yay for you for reading those labels!

Yes, there is sugar in salt (amazing, isn't it?)--but only iodized salt. If you eat fish (and in Portland, I bet you do! ), you neen't buy iodized salt. Kosher salt is cheap and sugar-free ... good sea salt is expensive as heck (funny, isn't it, when there's a big ocean full of it just a few miles away...) and also sugar-free.

But you're right, it's a miniscule amount and will not slow weight loss. I called Hain, who does this with their "sea salt' (which isn't good seal salt, btw), and they explained it helps keep the iodine suspended and well distributed throughout the salt.

HTH!

Wow! Thanks a bunch razzle =)))

Actually, kosher salt is better for cooking anyways I've seen. (On food tv) hehe. I shall switch just because I can!

Toodles
