Default Low Carb Dieters Need Answers That Supermarkets Cannot Respond To

Low Carb Dieters Need Answers That Supermarkets Cannot Respond To; Supermarket Employees Fail to Have Rudimentary Knowledge of a Low Carb Diet

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 18, 2004--"Many consumers just don't get it. They believe the supermarkets who are selling the product are there to help them lose weight on a low carb diet. Supermarket employees are not educating the consumer. At three separate Los Angeles area supermarkets the employees and, in two instances, Assistant Managers, did not know what 'net carbs' or 'sugar alcohols' were when I asked them. The customer doesn't always understand what they are doing, therefore the diet fails. It's not the products that fail the diet; it's the information that fails the dieter," stated Brad Saltzman, co-founder of the low carb food conglomerate Pure Foods, LLC.

"Our customers come in looking for information and they want answers. You can't get those answers at a supermarket," commented Saltzman. While Pure Foods Low Carb Markets has lost nearly 20% of their business in February to supermarkets, the company predicts it's just a matter of time before customers on low carb diets will be back. "Following today's announcement of the Duke University study, I anticipate that more people wanting to lose weight will start a low carb diet, but those consumers need the right direction, advice and foods, which only low carb markets can offer," said Saltzman.

Pure Foods, LLC introduced three private labeled low carb items in April: Pure Foods Gourmet Oregano & Garlic oil with zero carbs per serving, Kalamata Olive spread with 1 net carb per serving, and a smoky mozzarella spread with 0 net carbs per serving. The company sold more than 270 units in the first month.

By offering sections of gourmet low carb foods such as coffees by Dean & Deluca and Zabar's of New York; an array of fine olive oils; gourmet mustards and gourmet olives, Pure Foods, LLC hopes to entice customers back to their low carb markets.

Pure Foods, LLC is a Beverly Hills privately held company specializing in low-carb, low fat, sugar free, gluten free, gourmet and organic products. Pure Foods, LLC currently owns and operates specialty retail stores, specialty vending machine operations, gourmet frozen entrees and low carb catering.
