Default lightheaded and side pain

Hello fellow dieters!!

I am hoping that someone will be able to help me, I have been doing atkins for about 3 weeks and every evening I get headaches and lightheaded. What causes this? Also I have been having pains on my sides around the kidney area, what is this about? I have searched and didn't find anyone else who had this problem. I try to drink a ton of fluids, but all that does is send me to the restroom all the time.

If anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks to all,

Steph

What nutritional supplements are you taking?

You getting enough calories?

What kind of exercise are you doing? When?

The headaches could be caused by a number of things, least of which would be withdrawl from sugar, carbs, caffeine, etc.

The kidney pain I wouldn't mess with.... you probably should see a doctor to make sure you are not having any malfunction or kidney stones.

The lightheadedness could be from a potassium deficency. The headaches might be as well.

When is your last meal of the day? You might try eating at least a snack later in the evening.

As for the pain in the side - get it checked out. LC won't cause kidney problems, but it can unmask an already existing problem.

Best of wishes and hope you get a clean bill of health!

Hi Steph

I agree with William, make sure you are getting enough potassium. This feeling of light headedness crept up on me, unawares a month or so ago. Since I've been taking chelated potassium once a day I have had no repeat of these symptoms.

I'll echo the others, get the kidney pains checked out, this way of life should not have caused the problem, but might have highlighted it.

Its me again!!

I've just read a post in the Atkins section and there two people are talking about pains in their kidneys, both do not know of earlier problems, but think it could be from just too much water.
You might want to look in at this thread entitled "kidney pains". The first post is given below.

Quote:
I started Atkins on the 14th and am 5 pounds down but have a wee problem. I am getting kidney pains. They aren't constant and they aren't crippling, but they are there. I drink LOTS (10 glasses of water a day, plus black de-caff and herbal tea is a dry day for me), and have been told n the past by Drs. that I have "excellent kidneys".
