Default Almond (or other nut) flour?

I'm trying to add up the carb count for 5 Tbsp. almond flour. I can't find this count on Fitday. Does anyone know what it would be? Would I just measure how many whole almonds it takes to make 5 Tbsp. almond flour and use the count for that (probably double the amount of whole almonds I'm thinking)

Thanks!
Lily

Hi Lily,

I just weigh the almond meal, then check the weight on Fitday of plain almonds.

If you don't have a set of scales, perhaps the almond meal you bought has a weight on it, so you can estimate the amount you are using from that.

Thanks Rosebud! Great idea about weighing it. Actually, I just grind the raw almonds, I have never bought it as almond meal. I bought a HUGE bag of almonds at Costco a month or so ago, so I'll start buying the flour already made up once I get through that enormous bag! LOL!!

Thanks for the tip on weighing it an using the weight of the raw almonds on fitday!

Lily, do you blanche the almonds first? I've only made it once, but I did that, and was happy with the result. Plus they were a uniform color.

Hey saltnpeppa! I usually just toss them by the handful into a coffee grinder and pulse for a few seconds. It works pretty well, but sometimes if I do it too long it gets close to being almond butter! WHOOPS! I did that with cream once too, trying to whip it and making butter instead!
