Default Other doctor's cashing in ?

Lately as I browse the tv channels I am seeing more advertising for diet plans. I understand it's a billion dollar industry, but why is it that every doctors plan now is "the right one" in comparison to Atkins ?
I was watching Dr. Phil while on vacation and he had a weight loss challenge show and pretty much scrutinized any plan close to Atkins. Since when did he become a medical doctor ? I always thought he was a psychologist or a therapist .....
I guess I am utterly insulted that instead of encouraging people to be more healthy that doctors are cashing in on our health and wellbeing.

My personal opinion is that a lot of diet plans out there just aren't cutting it for people--people who're desperate to lose weight. I know I completely gave up on trying to lose weight because I was hungry and hypoglycemic on LF diets all of the time. That's just no way to live. And there are just a lot of people out there who can't buy that we've been sold a bill of goods for the past umpteen years about what is and isn't good for us. I think of my grandfather, who was on the Pritikin diet from 1972 after open-heart surgery, until it killed him with a stroke in 1979. Likely as not, he'd roll over in his grave if I could tell him about Atkins.

I feel the same way about the Dr. Phil thing. He is a psychologist and has no business doing this. I think its nice he is trying to help people but what about him? He is overweight.
