Did you use the sugar free variety of Metamucil?

Hi Atriana,
Yes I used the sugar free. I have been looking at the ingredients: Psyllium Husk, Maltodextrin, Citric Acid, Natural and Artificial Orange Flavor, Aspartame, FD&C Yellow #6. I don't know why I just blindly thinking there were no ingredients that could cause trouble I can see now many pitfalls with Metamucil. I got the idea off the Atkinscenter website I guess I am going to have to be more careful. I am glad I asked the question made me think.

If you are upping your fiber intake for its "go" power, I have found that the chelated form of magnesium - taken at bedtime - will have a laxative effect by the next morning.

RDA for Mag is 400-500 mg a day. It's best to get it in a few doses throughout the day and in combination with calcium. Usually you can get a cal/mag supplement with a ratio of 2:1 (333mg cal/ 167mg mag). As Atriana said, look for chelated or citrate - you do not want calcium carbonate from oyster shells, its hard on the tummy.

Fiber will help keep you regular, but water and fat also play a role in this. For more info on this have a read through Doreen's article 'Intestinal Health" under "Low Carb Tips" (atop every page in orange highlight).

I take 2 chelated magnesium potassium aspartate tablets in the evening. These are made by Country Life and contain:
600 mg of magnesium as magnesium aspartate, oxide, citrate, taurinate & alpha-ketoglutarate
198 mg of potassium as potassium aspartate, citrate and alpha-ketoglutarate.
