Default Do you count FLAX SEED calories?

Hi ALL:

I know I read this somewhere...and after extensive searching, cannot find it!

I am taking flax seed, and wonder if I count the calories on fitday? Example: If I want to stay at 2000 calories a day, and my flax seeds total 236 calories for 4 tablespoons, do I "ignore" this 236 calories, or do I count it the same as any other food? Meaning, are these burnable calories or non-burnable? Soluable or non-soluable? or whatever the hell it is I am trying to say! LOL!
What is the "correct" way to deal with these calories?

Thanks to all and best wishes;
Happy Jake

Seems to me that you're "flushing" them out as soon as your newly discovered drink kicks in! LOL

I vote for DON'T COUNT THEM!!!

HI Mammoth:
I don't know which way to vote on it but I'll give you my flaxseed thoughts

The majority of the calories in flaxseed are the oils. However, there is such a large fiber base that I would *suggest* that perhaps not all the calories are absorbed by the gut due to the high fiber content. I have flaxseed muffins almost every morning and I just consider it a part of my food total (meaning I don't then have 2 eggs and bacon, counting my flaxseed as invisible calories).

Maybe you could count them at 1/2 the calories?

Hi Jake! I would count the 236 calories in the 4 tablespoons like every other food ingested. That's how I take my olive oil and I count it as part of my calories. When I take flax in the form of the capsules I don't count it though.

Peace

Hey Red!
I Got it!
All I have to do is buy some empty gel-caps at the pharmacy...grind up my flax...fill the gel caps...then...simply put the capsules in my mug and add other ingredients and then I don't have to count them! SWEET!!!!!!!

Just kidding with you!

I had read someplace that alot of folk's did not count their flax seed for one reason or another...was hoping to hear more on that topic. But what the heck...I can count-em and be done with it. Really is not going to matter when all is said and done anyway as I under-eat every day anyway!

Best wishes;
Happy Jake

Default Hey Jeanne

Were you the one in another post who made homemade flax seed muffins?

If so would you be willing to share the recipe?

Thanks a bunch......

I think you have to count the calories, but not the carbs since they are all pretty much insoluble fiber.

Hi, mammoth!

I try to count everything, including ground flax seed, flax seed oil capsules, essential fatty acids capsules, psyllium husks--- everything. For one thing, the calories do add up, especially for those of us who are shorter than you, and/or women with slower metabolisms than you male folks. Also, after learning from all of you that the most successful Atkiners ingest more fat, I find that my daily flax seed oil and EFA have often helped me get within the optimum percentage range.

By the way, speaking of ground flax seed . . . I LOVE it with sliced strawberries with fresh whipped cream. Honestly, if you sprinkle a couple of spoonsful of ground flax seed and close your eyes, you could swear it is an ice cream sundae --- or, at least I could!

Great work on your weight losses!

Whammy

Alright, Jake. I've seen you associated with Flax so much today that I'm beginning to think that you've bought some stock. LOL.

Ok, I'm intrigued now. I'm going to buy some flaxseed tommorrow.

Cheers!
