Getting Bread Maker, what mix should I use?
Hi all,
This is probably a question that's been asked before, but I was unable to find anything on "Bread Maker" with the search function. I kept getting the word "bread" by itself, which of course is thousands of messages.
Anyway, my sister is sending me a bread maker. (I don't know what brand yet.) I've been in lifetime maintenance since January and have maintained my target weight without many problems. Currently I eat (mostly) whole grain breads, and will have somewhere between 1 and 10 slices per week depending on where in my weight range I'm at and what I'm eating. I've had problems finding store brands that are truly "whole grain", so I thought a bread maker would give me more control over the ingredients. After mentioning this to my mom, she talked to my sister and now there's a bread maker enroute.
For those of you with bread makers, what mixes have you used? What do you like/dislike about them? Are there "secrets" to making good bread you can share? I don't do much cooking, but I'd put myself at the "he's not a total idiot in the kitchen" level. In other words, I can follow instructions well and have had good success at using what's at hand to substitute for an ingredient I don't happen to have.
I noticed some mixes in the stores call for adding honey or some other sweetner. Do you substitute Splenda for the sweetner, leave out the sweetner, or what?
Anyway, thanks for any advice and product recommendations.
Regards,
Dan
