Question Spices and Carbs...

I thought since cinnamon and other spices have no nutritional label that it was all a ZERO count. So I was bored tonight and looked up cinnamon on here and its like, 5 carbs for a tablespoon! What gives? Are there any spices that ARE zero?? Man I was having fun with all those spices too!

5 carbs for a piece of tree bark? That sounds like an awful lot to me. Did you look it up on Fitday as I've heard that they don't subtract the fiber count. The Atkins book says, under acceptable foods, "ALL SPICES TO TASTE BUT MAKE SURE NONE CONTAIN ADDED SUGAR"

So, use your spices and don't panic!

Yes but there's always the fibre that may and should be subtracted.

fitday.com says:
Nutrition Facts

Amount Per 1 tablespoon
Calories = 17.77
Calories from Fat 1.95

Total Fat 0.217g
----- Saturated Fat 0.0442g
------Polyunsaturated Fat 0.036g
------Monounsaturated Fat 0.0326g
Cholesterol 0mg
Sodium 1.79mg
Potassium 33.99mg
Total Carbohydrate 5.43g
------Dietary Fiber 3.69g

Protein 0.265g
Alcohol 0g

This means that you may subtract 5.43 - 3.69 = 1.74 gm of carbs in ONE TABLESPOON - an awful lot as I only use about 1/2 a Teaspoon for a Mock Danish. I could make 6 Mock Danish from 1 tablespoon= 6 breakfasts at < 0.3 gm of carbs per danish.

So enjoy the taste.
