Smile Curious..how many medically orientated LCers out here?

Hi there Have been meaning to find out how many medical, paramedical and nutritional people we have on this forum. I realise that most here have lots of nutritional knowledge just by being on this forum, sharing and researching our woe, but just wondered re nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dietitions, doctors, nutrionalists etc...

Have a great day all! Mary (am in a v.good mood as just had a really nice LC lunch and I'm set up for the rest of the day! Also I have just learned to change colours so sorry for the expeimenting with styles etc)

I'm a nurse. I know many doctors at work that agree with LC. The ones that don't are usually the ones that have no personality and I wouldn't send my dead dog to.

I was just accepted into the University of Portland's nursing program. I feel soooo honored that they accepted me! I have completed tons of coursework in anatomy & physiology, bio organic chemistry, nutrition, molecular biology ect. Now I can't wait to get into the nursing end of it all and put it all to use. They have a masters program there too, and I hope to continue on after my bachelors. I dont know if that counts.....

Isnt that great that there are many here that are truly informed and can start to educate their peer and the public in a professional capacity. Its proving things work by the way you live as well as being able to back it up with some more detailed and informed arguments, not just media hype.

Nurses more than any I think can and should have an impact on the way the general public perceive this way of life, I find folk listen more to nurses because they have more of a relationship with them than to doctors who have lost a lot of trust since the old days (not all ofcourse, just talking about a general trend, as evidenced by ever increading litigation). For all you just starting or in process of doing a nursing course- this is just brilliant, the very best to you, it is a noble profession and one that has huge world shortages at the moment.

I do wonder if this is actually one of the problems with the medical world's hesitancy to embrace something like low carb - without that randomised, controlled, large scale double blinded multicentre study..with reproducible results that still does not exist, would they accept anything new...it seems we have defeated ourselves in that the fear of being sued unfairly or for trying something new and different means that it is hard now to make the kind of progress needed in this field - I'm sure a lot of the medical warnings are borne out of fear not so much of the unknown but of reprisals from anything that could be misconstrued as a complication...have more to say, but wont...just my $0.02 worth.

Also, nurses provide much more direct patient care than doctors do.

I'm an RN - work in the coronary care unit. Many of the physicians advocate low-carb, and some have even lost weight and gotten into better shape themselves with low-carb. Most recommend and follow a modified low-carb program like sugarbusters. I must say that overall the cardiologists practice what they preach and stay in good shape themselves.

I'm a RN in critical care. Lots of my fellow nurses are more accepting of low carb because it is working for me. Unfortunately, a few have tried it and quit because it is "too hard" but at least I know that they would be supportive of a patient who is trying to eat low-carb.

I am not a nurse but I am medially oriented. I am a certified medical assistant and I worked in the pharmacy department at the hospital and I worked with nurses in that department. Ohhh, do I wish I was doing this diet back then. However, I did not need to diet when I was there. If I needed to drop 5 lbs. or so, I could do it easily. I would love to have debated this with my colleagues. Surprisingly, doctors aren't as knowledgeable about meds. If you want to know anything about medecine, ask a pharmacist.
