Default inches, inches!

Hi,

NOT that I'm complaining, but who can explain this phenomenon of losing inches when the weight lost doesn't seem to correspond? I've been doing Atkins for six weeks and have lost 18 inches from the 7 places Atkins says to measure (chest, waist, hips, upper arms, thighs)...have dropped over a size, but the pounds are clicking off as fast. My sister is having the same "problem." He mentions it in his book and adds...but I want you to lose pounds, too. Any help?
Thanks!

My guess would be that your body is burning stored fat and is adding other things, like water

I do the same thing. I either lose inches OR pounds but not both. It is almost like my body shrinks and then the scale catches up later. Don't stress, the scale will move.

Here is a chart of my weight versus my waist size.

If you're weight training as well, you could be gaining muscle and losing fat. Muscle is more dense than fat, so it weighs more while taking up less space. That's something I've been running into. Genetically, I put muscle on really easily. So where I am now, I've lost about 4" off my waist, but my weight hasn't changed a whole lot.

A past p ost that might help explain what is happening:

A picture is worth a thousand words

Sometimes seeing the reason makes it easier to understand.

I'm the same, inches or weight - as long as my clothes are getting looser and my sizes going down I don't give a hoot what the scale says - I'm weight training as well, so I wouldn't expect the scale to go down rapidly anyway. I thought this morning, for the fun of it, I'd try on a pair of jeans I haven't worn in close to two years, to my amazement they fit and are even a little big in the hip area So the inches are still melting away.

Hi to all!
Thanks for the help. The picture was great! I measure once a week. It helps me stay motivated, and so far, I've done great. I don't have any cravings and after six weeks it is easier to stick to Induction than ever! Thanks again.
